Soprano, Khor Ai Ming, will sing arrangements of lullabies and songs for children by Britten, Stravinsky, de Falla, Montsalvatge and RR Bennett. The musical retrospect explores the inner conflict of a woman as she sings her child to sleep - charting her journey through life; from the awakening of her sexuality to the entrapment she feels as a maturing mother. Also included are songs of Poulenc, Rorem, Harbison, Weill, Barber, Milhaud, Bolcom, Dring and Takemitsu. All the songs will be sung in their original language.

An active vocalist, Ai Ming is synonymous with contemporary classical music and is often found in the company of many of contemporary’s greats. She is noted for her free-spirited performances with full commitment to the music. Ai Ming will be accompanied by Shane Thio.

About the aftereight series

What started as a chamber concert/recital series held at the YMS Arts Centre, has evolved into the aftereight series, a planned regular feature of YMS that is a collection of chamber music recitals, talks and workshops. This series of 60-minute concerts and lecture-demonstration sessions serves firstly to provide a less-formal introduction to different instruments and ensemble configurations, as well as an understanding of the music performed.

It also focuses on educating and increasing the audience-base for non-commercial/chamber music; and performances will involve creative interaction between audience and performer. The series also occasionally offers young Singapore musicians a platform for performance and thus far, we have showcased young scholars Reuben Lai (baritone) and Lim Tee Heong (bassoon), as well as Albert Lin (piano), vocalists Jeong Ae-Ree and William Lim and the T’ang quartet.
